Orthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that diagnoses, prevents, and treats dental and facial irregularities called malocclusions. Orthodontics includes dento-facial orthopedics, which is used to correct problems involving the growth of the jaw.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

The Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics provides quality service and efficient oral health care to a variety of patients seeking advanced Orthodontic, Facial Deformities/ Cleft Lip Palate & Functional Jaw Orthopaedic treatment. The Department also trains graduates as future clinicians and specialists in Orthodontics Philosophically, the department is dedicated to foster a strong educational background in the subject both clinically and with the recent research methodologies to excel in patient care decisions and formulate a treatment plan based on principles and procedures that have both biological significance and clinical relevance. Patients accepted for treatment in the orthodontic clinic are allotted to students & staff. Each student treats approximately 40-50 cases comprising a wide variety of treatment modalities including interdisciplinary approaches.

Patients requiring Orthognathic surgery are planned comprehensively for a three phase treatment protocol in tandem with the involvement of maxillofacial surgeons for a coordinated treatment protocol.

Treatment of patients with a variety of craniofacial anomalies predominantly the cleft lip and palate patients are coordinated through a team work. Appropriate orthodontic care is instituted to optimize the results in an efficient manner.
