1. Overview of the Department

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology consists chiefly of the diagnosis and medical management of the patient with complex medical disorders involving the oral mucosa and salivary glands as well as orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders. Specialists trained in field of Oral Medicine and Radiology deal with the oral cancer, pre cancer and are experts in early detection and management .The Department also provide dental and oral healthcare for patients with medical diseases that affect dental treatment, including patients receiving treatment for cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and infectious diseases. These specialists are involved in the primary diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases that do not respond to conventional dental or maxillofacial surgical procedures. The practice of oral medicine will provide optimal health to all people through the diagnosis and management of oral diseases. Radiological investigations are carried out in the Department .These investigations include the conventional as well as the digital radiography.

2. Aim

The aim is to foster the development of Dental Graduates and Post graduates with knowledge, skill and reasonable attitude which are required for carrying out activities involved in prevention, education, diagnosis and treatment of dental and maxillofacial diseases and To provide optimal health care facilities to the patients visiting the department.

3. Services Offered

a)Diagnosis and management of complex diagnostic and medical disorders affecting the mouth and the jaws

b) Oral cancer diagnosis and management

c) Oral Pre Cancer detection and treatment.

d) Diagnosis and management of Oral Mucosal diseases

e) Diagnosis and management of Salivary Gland Disorders

f) Orofacial pain-diagnosis and treatment

g) Temporomandibular joint disorders diagnosis and management.

h) Benign tumors involving the orofacial region –diagnosis and treatment.

I) Radiological investigations are carried out as a routine in the department in the interest of patient care.

Research and Development

Scientific research on various topics has been carried out in the past and has been published in various journals of National standards.

New research projects have been taken up and are on the verge of completion .these will be soon submitted for publication.

Is an examiner for various University Post graduate and undergraduate exams across the country.

Has remained President Indian Dental Association, J&K State Branch for the year 2011.
